An Open Letter to the Benguet Electric Cooperative (BENECO)

To the Management of BENECO,

We, the member-consumer-owners of BENECO, are writing to express our serious concerns and mounting frustration regarding the frequent and often unscheduled power interruptions that have become a persistent issue in our communities.

A stable electricity supply is not a luxury; it's a fundamental necessity for our daily lives. It powers our homes, supports our businesses, and keeps essential services like hospitals running. The constant outages, whether planned or not, are causing significant inconvenience, financial losses, and deep frustration for everyone.

While we understand that scheduled maintenance and emergency repairs are sometimes necessary to ensure a stable grid, the frequency and duration of these power cuts have become alarming. We often face outages that last for hours. This unpredictability makes it nearly impossible to plan our daily routines.

We acknowledge the efforts BENECO has made in recent years to upgrade its systems and infrastructure. However, the recurring nature of the problem suggests that a more comprehensive and long-term solution is urgently needed.

As your member-consumer-owners, we appeal to your sense of responsibility and commitment to public service. We ask that you address the following:

Transparency and Communication: Provide clear, timely, and detailed notifications for all scheduled power interruptions. For unscheduled outages, please use all available communication channels, including social media and text alerts, to inform the public of the cause and an estimated time of restoration.

 * Infrastructure Development: Accelerate ongoing projects to upgrade and modernize the power distribution system. We urge you to invest more in robust and resilient infrastructure that can withstand the challenges of our mountainous terrain and frequent adverse weather.

 * Accountability: Establish a more effective and responsive system for addressing consumer complaints and inquiries. We need to feel heard and that our concerns are being taken seriously.

 * Long-term Action Plan: Share your long-term strategy for significantly reducing power interruptions. A clear and public action plan will help rebuild our trust and give us confidence in your commitment to providing a reliable service.

We trust that you will take this matter with the seriousness it deserves. We are not just customers; we are partners in this cooperative. A reliable power supply is essential for the growth and well-being of our communities in Baguio and Benguet. We look forward to a prompt and meaningful response that leads to a lasting solution.

Sincerely,

The Concerned Member-Consumer-Owners of BENECO
